Ring In The Chinese New Year And Celebrate The Year Of The Ox At Specially Curated Dinners At Atlantis, The Palm's Hakkasan and Saffron Restaurants

A time for families and one of the most significant parts of welcoming in the new year, diners can enjoy a Chinese New Year dinner with loved ones at two of the resort’s most popular restaurants

In celebration of China’s most important festival on Friday 12thFebruary and to usher in the Year of the Ox, Atlantis, The Palm is inviting guests to celebrate new beginnings and fresh starts with celebrations at the newly refurbished Saffron from 10th-16thFebruary and at the city’s most stylish contemporary Chinese restaurant, Hakkasan from 10th- 26thFebruary.

Otherwise known as Lunar New Year, the annual event marks the first day of a new year on the Lunar calendar. Based on when the new moon appears, the Lunar calendar is more than 5,000 years old. On 12thFebruary this year, the animal sign will change from rat to ox, a sign that is looked upon favourably by Chinese culture given that its characteristics are hardworking, honest, logical and kind – qualities that are definitely worth celebrating.

Hakkasan

World-renowned Cantonese restaurant Hakkasanwill welcome guests with both a signature set menu and individual dishes. The set menu, which is priced at AED 498 p/p, features dishes said to bring good health and fortune and a specially crafted fortune-themed dessert. After being welcomed with a ‘fire and grace’ cocktail, diners will start with a Yu sheng salad with house cured salmon and a double treasure fortune quail blossom puff for extra good luck in 2021. Main dishes include crispy kumquat chicken, wok fried prawn with macadamia nuts and braised abalone roasted duck fried rice with dried scallops and shitake mushrooms. The Mandarin dessert will round the evening of on a suitably sweet and chocolatey note with an exciting twist courtesy of the orange cocoa butter.

Centred around the principle of “Peace, Love and Sharing”, with Chinese New Year itself falling on Valentine's weekend, the Year of the Ox will see Hakkasan’s wishing tree tradition go virtual for the first time ever and be transformed into a digital art installation across social channels.

It has long been a tradition to construct a wishing tree within Hakkasan restaurants worldwide on Chinese New Year, with guests invited to write their wishes on a red ribbon before tying it to the tree. This year, Hakkasan’s virtual wishing tree tradition will encourage guests to share their wishes on social media before being transformed into a video, which will be available to view on the Hakkasan website. As a token of goodwill for the year ahead, one lucky guest each week will be selected to have their wish granted.

Saffron

With exotic ingredients, tantalising flavours and exciting new dishes, diners can indulge in an authentic Chinese celebration with dishes from all four corners of the country with a selection of Cantonese, Szechuan, Shandong and Anhui dishes. With Cantonese salmon, edamame almond salad, siracha Chinese cucumber salad, double boiled abalone soup with crab meat, “Yong Zhou” style wok fried rice, Chinese black pepper crab, ho see fatt choy (braised oysters and sea moss), Szechuan style fish with salted vegetables, stewed tofu and chicken claypot – one of Saffron’s new signature dishes – diners are in for a sweet, sour, savoury and sensory treat. The menu will also include comforting favourites such as Peking duck and Hong Kong noodles. With its mix of Chinese and western desserts including green tea cheesecake, aloe vera gel and peanut crunchy, the extensive line-up of desserts are not to be missed.
