ONE&ONLY CAPE TOWN WELCOMES GUESTS BACK TO AFRICA’S MOST LOVED DESTINATION

19 November 2020, Cape Town - Resting at the foot of Table Mountain, Cape Town boasts a coastline of white sandy beaches, rugged mountainous landscapes and a city steeped in historical significance and a diverse cultural heritage. Home to One&Only Cape Town, a tranquil urban resort in the heart of the city, the award-winning destination is one of the most recognised cities in the world, and is now welcoming international guests back once again, following the lifting of border restrictions for travellers to South Africa.

This cosmopolitan city at the tip of Africa has an incredible range of experiences to offer visitors from across the globe. Located on the edge of the vibrant V&A Waterfront, One&Only Cape Town offers guests a window into the beating heart of the city, unlocking doors to undiscovered people, places and experiences. Guests can immerse themselves in the local culture through the resort’s curated activities and experiences, each one designed to reveal the authentic character of the destination.

Those craving the opportunity to get outdoors and experience an abundance of fresh air and adventure can discover the iconic mountain peaks which surround the city, traced with trails they are ideal for hiking, mountain biking and trail running, or explore the ocean with kayaking, diving, sailing and surfing from one of the many expansive beaches which make up the Cape’s coastline. “Live and breathe in one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Table Mountain, on one of our curated hiking experiences, perfect for solo adventurers or a fun and interesting walk for the whole family,” said David Engelbrecht, Fitness Instructor at One&Only Cape Town.

The Cape Town food scene is world-renowned and widely considered one of the most revered locations for fresh produce and wine. The local culinary scene is brimming with options for fresh, seasonal menus showcasing quality ingredients in a wide range of global cuisines. Restaurants such as La Colombe, Nobu and Test Kitchen regularly earn their place among the world’s top restaurants. “A great place for locals and international visitors alike is Kloof Street House. Open seven days a week and located in a grand Victorian house with a whimsical garden and courtyard, the restaurant offers an eclectic menu alongside some excellently mixed cocktails and is the perfect place to enjoy a fun, vibey atmosphere in the summer” – Feroz Esop, Concierge at One&Only Cape Town.

The famous Cape Winelands is just 40 minutes’ drive from the city centre and home to hundreds of wine farms, each with their own unique offering of food, wine and scenery – perfect for an afternoon or full-day excursion. Visitors can explore the historic French colonial town of Franschhoek, whose quaint streets, cafes and fine-dining restaurants are the perfect addition to a day exploring the surrounding wineries. Guests of One&Only Cape Town are invited to experience the stunning Franschhoek viniculture landscape through several tailored resort experiences, which provide unprecedented access and expertise to create unforgettable days out in the winelands. “One of my favourite wine farms has to be Simonsig Wine Estate, the founders of the ‘champagne of South Africa’ known as Methodé Cap Classique. It makes for a superb day out for the whole family, with vast lush green gardens for children to run around and even a special grape juice tasting for younger guests,” - Luvo Ntezo, Head Sommelier at One&Only Cape Town.

Guests at One&Only Cape Town can also experience the best of the region’s wine at the resort’s new Wine Studio, a sleek and sophisticated space hosting intimate tastings and exclusive experiences, such as a sommelier-led wine blending experience, where guests can create their own custom-blend using local varietals, which can be enjoyed in one of the resort’s restaurants or taken home as a memorable souvenir. Guests can also visit a local wine farm, where, together with the resort’s sommelier and local winemaker, they will be expertly guided to producing their ideal blend.

Cape Town boasts a lively social scene with countless trendy spots from charming gin bars to contemporary rooftop lounges, vibrant beach clubs and clandestine speakeasys. Bars and nightlife spots across the city remain open but limited to 50 per cent capacity, allowing visitors to enjoy a vibrant evening atmosphere, whilst also upholding strict health and safety measures.

The local arts and culture scene has flourished in recent years, with Cape Town recently welcoming several state-of-the-art galleries to its fold including the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, Zeitz Mocaa, the centre for art and cultural expression, the Norval Foundation, and the Melrose Gallery located at One&Only Cape Town. Art turns social on the first Thursday of each month, as streets are closed off to allow pedestrians the space to roam freely between the city’s galleries by night, a much-loved cultural event which has now returned to the city.

One&Only Cape Town is situated in the V&A Waterfront, a safe, privately-owned precinct which houses a large shopping mall, countless restaurants and bars, food and crafts markets, art galleries, an aquarium, a comedy theatre and both indoor and outdoor kids play areas. All of this, surrounding a modern, fully functioning harbour, from where tourists can visit famous sites such as Robben Island or enjoy a sunset cruise.

When choosing to stay with One&Only Cape Town, guests are welcomed with the firm commitment that their health, safety, and wellbeing is the utmost priority. The resort has introduced COVID-19 testing for guests that require this to facilitate international travel, this is available in resort and is complimentary for those staying for five nights or more, or booked in a suite. Though some offerings will be slightly different during this period, One&Only Cape Town will continue to offer choice, privacy, personalisation, and showcase the life, energy, and heartbeat of the resort and this city, so that its guests can experience an escape with the highest degree of comfort and enjoyment.
