One&Only Reethi Rah - Activities

A Vibrant Island of Life and Energy

Surrounded by the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean, nestled within lush tropical gardens and fringed with pure white sand beaches, many guests at One&Only Reethi Rah choose to simply sit back and take in the incredible surroundings, but for those looking for a little adventure, opportunity abounds on one of the largest private islands in the Maldives.

With six kilometres of stunning coastline, One&Only Reethi Rah is a water-lover’s paradise. Guests have complimentary use of a variety of watersports equipment to explore the surrounding ocean including canoes, paddleboards, kayaks, pedaloes and windsurfing. The island’s lagoon and house reef are home to a variety of marine life, and snorkelers are able to see turtles, Napoleon wrasses, white-tip sharks, butterfly fish, the ubiquitous tuna and many more just a short swim or pedalo ride from the shore. Thrill-seekers can take advantage of the power sports available at the Water Sports Centre and try their hand at water-skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding or eFoil surfboarding.

The surrounding North Malé Atoll is alive with possibilities for those who wish to explore further afield. Day trips from the island include traditional hand line fishing from a traditional Maldivian dhoni, a luxury cruise aboard a privately chartered yacht, island picnics on a perfectly secluded sandbank, champagne sunset cruises, or big game fishing to try catching Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, and Marlin. Turtle Adventure, run by the resort’s resident Marine Biologist or Turtle Biologist, offers guests the opportunity to set sail on a traditional dhoni for ‘Turtle Reef’ and snorkel alongside the endangered Hawksbill turtles at their feeding ground. From May to October, the nearby Baa Atoll comes alive with masses of manta rays that come to feast on the large quantities of plankton present during this time of year and the resort arranges snorkelling trips for guests to witness this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Those interested in marine life can also head in search of the acrobatic spinner dolphins, join the Shark Safari to swim with reef sharks in their natural habitat or head out on an excursion to observe the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. Guests can also pay a visit to the specialist turtle rehabilitation centre at the resort, set up in partnership with charity The Olive Ridley Project to care for injured sea turtles. Rescued creatures are taken care of by the resort’s resident Turtle Biologist, before being released back into the wild once they reach full health.

The Maldives is one of the world’s top diving destinations and the surrounding ocean area is blessed with dozens of excellent dive sites, all within easy reach of the resort. Within a short distance is one of the Maldives' best shark sites, as well as the 1988 wreck of the Hembadhu, the Rasafari Protected Marine Area, for excellent turtle and manta ray viewing. Plentiful reefs, gentle drop-offs, visibility of up to 40 meters as well as expert teaching from the Dive Centre PADI Instructors make this an excellent place to learn how to become a qualified diver, and it is equally rewarding for experienced divers too. The resort’s PADI Gold Palm Dive Centre is run by professional PADI instructors, who conduct classes and organise regular diving and snorkelling excursions for all levels. A full PADI education programme is offered by a multi-lingual team, including regular Discover Scuba Diving sessions and a PADI programme for children from eight years old.  Certified divers have a range of options to explore the fascinating marine world as the Dive Centre offers morning or afternoon dives, night dives, nitrox and rebreather dives.

Back on dry land, guests can enjoy the array of sports activities available at Club One including beach volleyball, pétanque, badminton, football and table tennis, padel tennis, or simply explore the island’s 44 hectares by bicycle. One&Only Reethi Rah also offers two floodlit synthetic-hard tennis courts where a professional tennis coach offers expert tuition and will also play with any guests in need of a partner. Younger guests, aged 4 to 12, can play a variety of sports at KidsOnly, where a swimming pool, dining area and supervised playground give children ample space to have fun. For teenaged guests aged 13-17, they can join the fun at One Tribe where they can choose a tailor-made programme of sports and excursions at Club One, One&Only Spa and various other areas across the resort. Children ages 4 and below are also welcome at KidsOnly, provided that they are accompanied by a guardian.

The resort’s Fitness Centre is fully equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment from Technogym ARTIS® range and an outdoor Queenax training area, the only one in the Maldives. Offering personalised workout programmes developed for the individual needs of guests using Technogym equipment, guests can follow the same programme wherever they are. A dedicated Kinesis® training room offers tri-dimensional pulley system training, and yoga and meditation are practised in the tranquillity of the Chi Pavilion set above the gentle waters of the lagoon.

Finally, if guests are looking to address a specific health concern or are seeking a higher level of overall wellness during their stay, One&Only Spa provides bespoke retreats to ensure that their stay on the island uplifts, revives and restores. Therapists blend holistic and conventional expertise to create individual programmes combining the spa treatments and fitness activities in line with nutritional intake, creating focused spa regimes to inspire lifestyle change and wellbeing. With programmes ranging from three to seven days, all of the ‘Reset in Residence’ Wellness Journeys begin with a personal lifestyle, fitness and nutrition consultation and target specific goal orientated journeys, such as weight loss or anti-stress.
