One&Only Cape Town introduces brand new guest experiences

Cape Town is in the spotlight for 2018

From panoramic views of Table Mountain to sensational culinary experiences and laidback poolside glamour, One&Only Cape Town is the ultimate destination, offering an oasis of tranquillity away from the bustle of the city. New for 2018, One&Only Cape Town has introduced brand new guest experiences for guests to discover, from Nobu masterclasses and a partnership with LOUIS XIII cognac to a permanent pop-up studio at the One&Only Spa.

Cape Town is the perfect destination for visitors looking to explore an emerging destination and immerse themselves in authentic experiences. The city is in the spotlight this year as 2018 marks the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela, with celebrations taking place in Cape Town throughout the year. Guests of One&Only Cape Town will have the opportunity to sample the flagship Marianne wine Floreal, which was served at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.

Furthermore, South Africa’s biggest art museum, The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, located in a converted 1920s grain silo, opened at the end of 2017 with a striking 10 storey high atrium that has been carved out of the cellular concrete tubes that make up the building’s original structure. One&Only Cape Town offers guests priority access, previews of special events and one-of-a-kind tours to this new centre for art excellence. This forms part of the ‘One&Only Art Conversations’ excursions, which are tailor-made with the interests of each guest in mind, whether they are embarking on a South African art collection journey, looking for specific pieces or want a unique view of the countries contemporary art world. One&Only Art Conversations, led by respected South African art dealer and collector João Ferreira, cost from R3750 / 228GBP per person and include return transfers and entry to the museum.

NEW EXPERIENCES AT ONE&ONLY CAPE TOWN

Cape Town is a world-renowned foodie haven and One&Only Cape Town is at the centre of its epicurean and vinicultural delights. From the world-famous, Michelin-starred Nobu restaurant; to award-winning Reuben Riffel’s chic brasserie, Reuben’s – which has launched a brand new a la carte menu this year; and an al fresco Mediterranean dining spot, Isola; One&Only Cape Town’s restaurants are considered amongst the city’s finest, championing South African artisanal produce, served with a modern twist. The legendary Wine Loft showcases one of the country’s most esteemed native wine collections, overseen by South Africa’s Best Young Sommelier, Luvo Ntezo, and the resort is renowned for hosting unforgettable ‘Chef & the Vine’ dinners, hosted by local winemakers. South African wine estates have been carefully curated by Ntzeo to pair smartly with Reuben dishes. The series celebrates the best in culinary pairings and runs throughout the year: 29 March Marianne Wine Estate, 26 April Delaire Graff Estate, 31 May Morgenhof Wine Estate, 28 June Avondale Wines, 26 July Springfield Wine Estate, 30 August Jordan Wines, 27 September Hamilton Russell Estate, 25 October Warwick Wines and 29 November One&Only Cape Town: Taste of MCC. These evenings are priced at R595 / 36GBP per person.

New for 2018, One&Only Cape Town has introduced ‘Sip and Savour: a Taste of Cape Town’, offering guests the opportunity to sample some of the finest wine varietals from the Cape Peninsula. Hosted by Luvo Ntezo, the experience includes a bespoke day of tasting in the winelands whilst discovering the story behind the ‘One&Only blend’. Prices start from R4250 per person / 258GBP and includes return transfers, tasting fees and a bottle of ‘sommelier’s choice’ in a personalised wooden box. Lunch is optional and is at an additional fee.

Home to world-class master chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa’s first restaurant in Africa, diners at One&Only Cape Town can indulge in fresh South African seafood and indigenous spices in mesmerising dishes such as Sake Roast Whitefish with Jalapeno or the Chocolate Bento Box; a dark chocolate fondant with green tea ice cream and a sesame seed tuile. Guests can now learn the art of Nikkei cooking and take part in brand new Nobu Masterclasses, joining Head Chef Harold Hurtada to learn how to prepare Nobu’s signature dishes, together with sensational sake pairings.

Guests are treated to either a Tempura or Toban Yaki demonstration, with cold dishes prepared at the sushi bar and hot dishes in the main kitchen. Dishes are prepared by Head Chef Harold Hurtada and Head Sushi Chef Benjamin Lopez and are served ‘family-style’. Accompanying sakes and beverages are presented by Nobu’s Sommelier team, Tonel Gumbo and Grant Sondezi. The masterclass starts from R1495 / 90GBP per person, a VIP Masterclass from R1995 / 121GBP per person and the Wine and Sake Experience from R595 / 36GBP per person. All recipes are provided after the masterclasses and guests of the VIP masterclass also receive a Nobu cookery book and apron.

Furthermore, LOUIS XIII Cognac and Nobu have partnered to create a bespoke dining experience. This paired gourmand experience masterfully blends the unique taste profiles of LOUIS XIII cognac with the delectable flavours that Nobu is renowned for. Echoing the key elements of LOUIS XIII the scallop with foie gras, vanilla miso and a balsamic reduction reflect the spirit’s harmony, followed by the langoustine with caviar, gomma dressing and crispy shitake for contrast. LOUIS XIII’s decadence is embodied by New York-style black cod, yuzu miso with kataifi. The fourth course, the Epitome, is rounded off by a Chilean sea bass with dashi Ponzu before finishing the evening with the Elevation course of slow-cooked Wagyu flambé and truffle rice. LOUIS XIII is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region and features exceptional aromas evoking myrrh, honey, dried roses, plum, honeysuckle, cigar box, leather, figs and passion fruit. The Gourmet Dinner experience includes an elaborate six course menu paired to a glass of LOUIS XIII and is priced at R5 950 / 362GBP per person. Alternatively, guests can order a glass of LOUIS XIII (R4,500 / 274GBP) and enjoy a complimentary canapé experience, each pairing designed to highlight a different character of this luxurious cognac. The Gourmand Experience (for six to eight people), is South Africa’s most luxurious dining experience, served with a personalised decanter of LOUIS XIII, and is valued at R120 000 / 7,297 GBP.

Guests can also now begin the day with One&Only Cape Town’s new breakfast experience. The hearty home-style buffet offers comfort classics as well as fruits, protein-packed smoothies, gluten free options and a jam sommelier. Featuring local ingredients sourced by artisanal chefs, the a la carte menu is a foodies delight of classic and new style specials; like the Sabroso Waffle; a savoury waffle with Manchego cheese, chorizo, baby spinach, Danish fest, poached egg, pesto humus and cherry tomatoes and delightful sweet treats such as sticky toffee French toast with ginger bread ice cream and caramel sauce. Younger guests can enjoy a KidsOnly kitchen corner of waffles made to order, stacks of perfect pancakes and timeless fresh and healthy home-made options.
