Celebrating Women in Wine at One&Only Cape Town for South African Women’s Day

This August, in recognition of South Africa’s Women’s day and to champion women winery owners and winemakers, One&Only Cape Town  will be hosting a uniquely special event - ‘A Celebration of Women in Wine’. Featuring women at the top of their game in the wine industry, this celebratory occasion will be held on 25 August and will showcase a variety of masterful viticulturists and passionate winemakers including the likes of Erika Obermeyer, Elunda Basson, Ntsiki Biyela and Norma Ratcliffe.

Guests are welcome to celebrate these incredibly talented and brilliant winemakers and sample their creations this Women’s Month for an opportunity to discover not only boutique wine estates, new wines and sensational cuisine but learn about the South African women who are forging a path for future generations of female winemakers globally.

In an elevated dining experience featuring wines from each of these women and their associated wine farms, guests will experience a four-course dinner and wine pairing with a twist. The evening will be co-hosted by the resort’s sommelier Luvo Ntezo, who will teach the art of wine and pairing, showcasing the individual characteristics of the wines and how to interpret flavours from different palettes. This interactive, exclusive experience encourages guests to discover their inner sommelier, whilst savouring Cape classics and global standouts along the way. Hosted in One&Only Cape Town’s Wine Studio, a unique and intimate space that was created to celebrate occasions such as this great feature of the country’s heritage, wine aficionados and novices alike are invited to delve deep into the South African wine landscape.

"I find my inspiration in South Africa's unique and diverse vineyard sites, to respectfully express their intrinsic character and sense of place in every wine,” said Erika Obermeyer, Cellarmaster at Erika O, who is amongst the prestigious list of wine makers who will be featured at the event. The wine of Elunda Basson, an accomplished winemaker, is also set to feature, hailing from the gorgeous property of Steenberg Vineyards, known for being the Cape’s first functioning farm and who began its remarkable history in 1682.

Guests can also look forward to Aslina wines, created by Ntsiki Biyela, whose expertise and wines have won a number of industry awards, both internationally and closer to home. To round off the experience, the sublime wines from Warwick Wine will also be available to sample. Carefully cultivated by Norma Ratcliffe, a true pioneer in the field, Warwick Wine released their first bottle of Warwick Wine in 1984.  Each farm brings a fresh approach to vinification, and guests can learn about the varietals and thought process behind each of these wines, an opportunity not that many are afforded. Expertly paired with a specially curated menu that will showcase the flavours of the selected wine, every dish is painstakingly prepared with passion and precision, lending itself to being a part of an exclusive and beautiful evening.
