One&Only Cape Town Introduces Exclusive Wine Collection in Partnership with Renowned Local Wine Farms

One&Only Cape Town, nestled in the heart of South Africa’s wine country, pays homage to the region’s viticulture with its new exclusive Wine Collection. The collection features a curated selection of wines from beloved local vineyards, celebrating the vibrant winemaking community of the Cape Winelands.

With countless accolades awarded to its resident farms, the Western Cape is considered one of the best areas in the world for wine production. Amongst these farms are the beloved Wade Bales Wine Farm, the historic Simonsig Wine Estate and the boutique Mischa Estate, each of whom has collaborated alongside Resort Sommelier Luvo Ntezo to create the new, exclusive One&Only Cape Town Wine Collection.

A legendary trio made of a Sauvignon Blanc, a Red Blend and a Cap Classique, this wine collection cements One&Only Cape Town’s position as a wine-loving resort more firmly still. It marks the beginning of a new age of wine, celebrations and memories to come at the resort. 

The Sauvignon Blanc 

Luvo and wine farm owner Wade Bales collaborated to create a unique Sauvignon Blanc, made with grassy, green flavours and notes of guava, asparagus, passion fruit and kiwi. Intended as an easy-drinking, all-occasions wine, the light white wine is a hat-tip to the warm climate of the Cape summer months, with the grape varietal being the 3rd most produced (and enjoyed) of the South African wines. “It kind of jumps out the glass – the romantics are very prominent,” says Wade. “[The wine] has that crisp acidity, that freshness that one expects from Sauvignon Blanc and a clean finish. I think this is going to be absolutely loved by the guests of One&Only.”

Wade Bales Wines are amongst the most unique wine estates in South Africa. Primarily existing as an online wine retailer, owner Wade Bales began the business in 2007 with over 25 years of experience in the wine industry. His passion for the craft has resulted in not only a successful online business but also in many bountiful wine harvests and some of the most unique and wonderful wines in the region. Wade Bales Wine has won numerous awards and accolades for its innovative approach to wine retail and its commitment to quality and affordability. 

The Red Blend (‘The Rouge’) 

Named ‘The Rouge’, the One&Only Cape Town red wine was created as a Bordeaux-style blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with a subtle undercurrent of Merlot. Luvo worked alongside Mischa Head Winemaker Johan Calitz throughout the process, perfecting a multi-layered, bold wine with distinct black fruit flavours, including blackberries, blackcurrant and sweet spice, ensuring its complex flavour and allowing for ease of drinking. The beauty of such a delicious red is two-fold, with its unique flavour profiling and drinkability.

Recognised for its quality and stellar reputation, Mischa Estate is one of the Western Cape’s youngest wine farms, founded in 2004. Located in a prime location in the foothills of the Slanghoek Mountains, this region has the perfect climate to pay host to the incredible vineyards surrounding it. Mischa Estate continues to grow year after year, with national and international acclaim, as well as expanding its vineyards and facilities to offer private, in-depth wine tastings and tours, providing visitors with the complete wine experience. 

“Each varietal, each wine, each barrel has a different character and a different personality,” explains Johan. “The different personalities don’t always play well together and you have to find the right ones. I believe we did just that. And we have made a beautiful wine.” 

The Cap Classique Brut

Luvo and Simonsig Cellar Master Johan Malan – a man who needs no introduction in the wine world, having won The Diners Club Wine Maker of the Year in 2020, for his 2015 Kaapse Vonkel Brut - partnered to create a one-of-a-kind Cap Classique, titled the ‘One&Only Cap Classique Brut’.

This unique Cap Classique (CC) is made from three classical varietals, namely the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, producing a CC that is blissfully biscuity, toasty, fresh and clean. “It’s a beautiful wine”, says Luvo. “It is fresh, clean, bright, elegant with a lovely rich mouthful and has beautiful citrus flavours emerging from start to finish”. 

Simonsig Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s most well-known and highly regarded wine estates, located in the Stellenbosch wine region. Established in 1688, the estate has been producing award-winning wines for over three centuries and continues to produce some of the finest wines in the world. It was also the first South African wine farm that produced ‘MCC’ or ‘Methodè Cap Classique’ (now referred to as ‘Cap Classique’) a manner of classifying sparkling wine that has been created in the same method as Champagne from the Champagne Valley in France. 

The One&Only Cape Town Wine Collection will be available for consumption only at the resort and for in-house and external guests alike. Each wine is set to be featured throughout the wine calendar for the remainder of the year and into 2024, with Luvo at the helm to acquaint any fellow wine lovers with this trio.

Beyond this collection, guests of the resort can reserve intimate, guided tours of the wine farms during the harvest season for a premier wine-tasting experience to remember.
