Jacques Le Roux

Resort Manager, One&Only Gorilla's Nest

Jacques le Roux

Jacques Le Roux is the Resort Manager at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest in Rwanda. Located in the foothills of the breathtaking Virunga Volcano range in Kinigi, Rwanda, the ultra-luxury resort began welcoming guests in October 2019 and was officially opened by His Excellency Paul Kagame, President, Republic of Rwanda, in February 2020.

Jacques is responsible for the overall operation of One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, located just five minutes from the Volcanoes National Park, offering guests an exclusive front-row seat to observe endangered mountain gorillas in the wild, in keeping with the brand’s promise to create unrivalled, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. A jungle sanctuary surrounded by eucalyptus trees and fragrant rose gardens, the resort is located in one of the world’s most inspiring natural locations, with cuisine that tells the story of Rwanda, spa and wellness offerings that embrace nature and authentic Rwandan traditions, and exceptional experiences to discover the heart of the country’s culture and wildlife.

Jacques joined One&Only in 2018 as Resort Manager for One&Only Nyungwe House, One&Only’s first resort in Rwanda, located on a working team plantation on the edge of the ancient Nyungwe Forest. Following the successful opening and operation of this resort, Jacques transitioned to lead the team at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest. Jacques has over 10 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, having previously held General Manager, Resident Manager and Camp Manager positions in various African lodges, camps and hotels. Prior to joining One&Only, Jacques held the role of General Manager at Africa’s Eden Belo Monte – an exclusive boutique hotel in São Tomé and Príncipe where he led over 100 team members and was in charge of all operations, as well as Marketing, Sales and Reservations. Jacques has worked in South Africa, Bermuda, UK, Europe and Botswana.

Jacques grew up just outside of Cape Town in South Africa, and after leaving school to travel, he moved to the United Kingdom where he joined the Nike Hotel Group and studied hospitality management. Upon completion of his studies, he joined one of their hotels as Conferencing and Banqueting Manager. Following this, he moved to Bermuda where he worked on cruise ships for a number of years before moving back to South Africa and working in lodges around the Kruger National Park.
