Angel Ramirez Betancourt is the Executive Pastry Chef at One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, joining the exceptionally talented culinary team in December 2020. Born and raised in Venezuela to a family of doctors, the decision to become a pastry chef was a unique choice and one that Betancourt went into wholeheartedly. Having spent much of his early childhood in the kitchen surrounded by his mother’s and grandmother’s cooking, he quickly perfected baking simple breads, cookies, granolas and homemade jams.

After training at one of the world’s most renowned culinary institutes, Le Cordon Bleu Paris Ottawa Culinary Arts Institute, Betancourt honed his craft over the next 15 years alongside mentors such as Chocolatier Laurent Pagès, Chef & Pâtissier Carles Mampel, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Chef Sara Tibbitts. His decorated career took him through prominent positions around the globe, including stints as Corporate Pastry Chef for Blue Diamond Resorts, Executive Pastry Chef for Four Seasons Bahamas, and Executive Pastry Chef for the former One&Only Ocean Club, The Bahamas, where he spent 10 years showcasing his craft and garnering international acclaim.

At One&Only Palmilla, Betancourt presents an immersive world of sweets to the culinary program across the resort’s collection of restaurants and dining offerings, including in-room dining amenities and special celebration delicacies. “Sharing food, is like sharing hugs,” says Angel R. Betancourt, ensuring he and his team are always delighting resort guests with a warm and sweet welcome.
